Club Donates Books, Toys, Snacks During Holidays, Helps Salvation Army Ring Holiday Bell

The Rotary Club of Yonkers-East Yonkers had a busy schedule, taking part in many activities.  Members donated 275 books to the Will Library.  Club President Mahbub Ahmad, Past President Rev. Dr. J. Loren Russell and Club Foundation Chair Bina Ahmad were on hand to hand over the books to Library Administrator, Christian Zabreskie, on Monday 19 December.  President Ahmad hoped that this donation would help the library boost its collection and provide additional reading materials for the Library patrons.  Zabrieskie, thanked the Rotary Club for its efforts in providing the wide assortment of books - all in excellent condition.
 
Earlier on Thursday, 15 December the Club donated a month of snacks to the Ronald McDonald House in Valhalla.  The House will provide the individual packs of snacks to the children and their families who reside there while the critically ill or traumatically injured children are undergoing treatment at the Maria Fiore Children’s hospital next door.  Club President Mahbub Ahmad and Secretary Peggy Murphy had gone shopping earlier that day and brought the snacks to the Ronald McDonald House where Program Coordinator, Britanny Parsio received the packages of snacks.
 
At the same time at the Shop-Rite on Tuckahoe Road, Past Rotary District Governor Greg Arcaro and other members were braving the frigid weather and helping the Salvation Army ring the Holiday collection bell.  Because of the extreme cold weather the Club President Mahbub Ahmad and Salvation Army Captain Claircius decided to call it a day early, with the Club donating a check to the Salvation Army to approximate the usual collection.  Rotary Members have traditionally helped ring the bell one-day during the holiday season.
 
Continuing the tradition of Holiday giving, Club members and the Club donated toys for needy children.  This year the toys were handed over to Leake & Watts of Yonkers.  Past President Rev. Dr. J. A Holiday get-together was hosted by Club President Mahbub Ahmad and Bina Ahmad at their home attended by District Governor Lora Hugelmeyer, Past District Governors Janet Beneditto and Matts Ingemanson, District Membership Chair David Schribman, District Trainer Professor Dong-Joon Lee as well as Club members.
