Club History

The  Rotary Club of Yonkers-East Yonkers was chartered in 1920.  In its current organization, it is the outcome of the merger of the Rotary Clubs of Yonkers and East Yonkers which was completed in June 2013.  We are Club No 5044, in Area 4 of District 7230 which comprises New York City, the Bronx, Staten Island, Westchester, and Bermuda.  Since its founding, our club has upheld the ideals and goals of the Rotary movement of Service above Self in our local, national, and international spheres. 

We are rooted in the community and will continue to support a wide range of activities in support of our community.  Our Literacy Project assists Yonkers Elementary School students, our High School Scholarships assist college-bound seniors.  We have raised funds to rebuild schools damaged by floods in Bangladesh and helped build safe cookstoves in a Ugandan village. Our Annual Community Breakfast event raises funds for Food Pantries and local service organizations.  In 2017-18 the Club raised nearly $60,000 for the Polio Plus Fund. 

We are very active at the District Level, having provided 10 District Governors most recently for 2019-20 Mahbub Ahmad, as well as for 2013-2014 - Matts Ingemanson, and for 2012-2013 - Greg Arcaro, from our Club. 

The Club was awarded the Rotary Presidential Citation for 4 years in a row - 2016-17 under President Mahbub Ahmad,  2017-18 under President Alix Schnee,  2018-19 under President Sundra Lee-Ingemanson, and 2019-20 under President Steve Simpson.  The Club also received the Rotary Foundation Banner for Every Rotarian Every Year for 2016-17, and 2017-18 with every member of the Club contributing to the Rotary Foundation during the year.

The Club meets every Wednesday at 12:15 PM now via Zoom video Conferencing.  The last meeting of every month is an evening meeting at 6:15 pm  We regularly have guest speakers.  There is now no cost, and guests are always welcome.  To join one of our meetings, please email info@yonkersrotary.org at least three days in advance of the meeting and you will be sent the Zoom information.  Please include information about yourself, your Rotary information, and where you will be joining from.

At the present time, the Club Officers are Steve Simpson, President, Tim Hodges, President-Elect, PDG Greg Arcaro, Secretary and Mayra Tapan, Treasurer.
